Chekhov: Platonov - Premier
16 October 2010 7.30 pm -Thália Theatre
Zoltán Balázs, director of Maladype Theatre, gets rid of the lyric, melancholic layers of Chekhov’s early masterpiece. He does not join the trend of presenting a bitter-sweet, impressionistic play, but offers a harsher, more lively and more ironic approach. It is, in fact, the very manner of playing, “simple and primitive”, that Chekhov himself implies once. The cruelly honest performance of Maladype does not seek the writer’s intention, rather the possible interpretations of the present.
A joint programme with Thalia Theatre, Maladype Theatre and Budapest Autumn Festival.
