Lorenzaccio
Alfred de Musset: Lorenzaccio
„Everything is familiar that is uncertain and incoherent. – says Sándor Zsótér the director. – There is no way of making a compromise justonce. I can’t make a small compromise just to act without compromise afterwords.– that burns into your soul.
Lorenzaccio takes us to the XVIth century Florence to the age of Medici. Lorenzo Medici is a quiet, introvert, scientific man. Than all of a sudden he joins himself to the rakish, evil prince of Florence, Alessandro Medici. He becomes his partner, his evil spirit, his favourite.
He takes the mask of the corrupt, coward hedonist to kill the tyrant. But he can not take off the mask any more, even if he wanted to. His own tragedy is that he is aware of this. He hates people. He thinks he knows them. Murder is only an experiment. Can people take advantage of the unexpected freedom? And he is right. They cannot. He is right but he is not delighted. He dies hideously, disillusioned, undeserved. He is lynched. And those who benefit from the perplexing situation are the ones led by interests and not ideals. Florence choses an untalented impotent puppet as a new leader.
