MA AND AL - guest performance
27th and 28th of January 2012 at 7 pm
Based on the inspiration of the texts by Bernard-Marie Koltès and J. D. Salinger
Director and text: Ivica Buljan
Actors: Senka Bulić and Marko Mandić
Costumes: Ana Savić-Gecan
Scenography: Slaven Tolj
Production: Mini Teater, Novo Kazalište Zagreb, Hotel Bulić Kazalište and ITD Zagreb / Slovenia / Croatia
Performance in English langue
Ivica Buljan is one of the most productive directors of post-dramatic theatre in Croatia, and he has directed and toured all over Europe. His most recent show Ma and Al is based on inspiration on texts by J.D. Salinger and Bernard-Maria Koltès in which the reader can recognise the parenting couple from the dysfunctional family Glass. The space is decorated with fragments of props, and the border between the real and fictitious experience become blurred as the audience is called upon and drawn into the playful hysteria of the actors that play characters from the novel and the play. Issues that are opened in the show are varied and from the everyday: family breakups, the death of a child, American democracy, the relationship between traditional and contemporary theatre, art, the Vietnam war, etc. Strong performances by Senka Bulić and Marko Mandić give us an in depth understanding of Salinger's and Koltès's texts.
Ma and Al is a brilliant play, thanks to extraordinary actors who amaze us with a brilliant physical theater, and the director who through the choice of theatrical actions and scenery, achieves the atmosphere of neurotic destructiveness that illustrates the relationship between main characters, or anti-characters to be more precise...(Zrinka Zorčec, Vijesnik)

dunaPart – Platform of Contemporary Hungarian Performing Arts 20-22 January 2011, Budapest
Theatre Maladype will performe Egg(s)hell at the dunaPart - Platform of Contemporary Hungarian Performing Arts. DunaPart aims at presenting outstanding representatives of the independent Hungarian performing arts scene.
Our performance Egg(s)hell you could see on the 22 January 2011 at 6pm in Merlin Theatre (V. Budapest, Gerlóczy street 4.)
Hungary's two devoted initiators of international artistic collaboration, Trafó- House of Contemporary Arts and Workshop Foundation are organising the second edition of the platform for contemporary Hungarian performing arts entitled dunaPart, to be held from 20 - 22 January 2011 in Budapest.
The platform’s main objective is to present performing arts professionals – managers, programmers, curators, theatre and (performing arts) festival directors – visiting Hungary for these 3 days with outstanding examples of the independent Hungarian performing arts scene. The programme will consist of eight theatre and ten dance performances. Visiting theatre and dance professionals and ex-pats who live in Hungary will have a great opportunity to see performances in their original settings with English surtitles. The dynamic programme, over a long weekend, will give everyone – whether they live in Budapest or in the provinces – a good chance to see what they have previously missed.
These performances, along with professional events and discussions, will make up a three-day programme centred on four venues (Merlin Theatre, MU Theatre, Szkéné and Trafó House of Contemporary Arts).
The organisers' further purpose is to demonstrate and bring to the attention of executives that independent, creative theatre and dance companies outside the established theatre framework are an organic part of Hungarian and international artistic life, a section of our culture which must be supported and not allowed to die of neglect.

Guest performance Leonce and Lena on the 45. Maribor Theatre Festival
Brimming with challenge and the poetics of the senses, the oldest and the most prominent theatre festival in Slovenia has always been the scene of exciting arguments, new insights and unexpected reversals. Since 1996, the year of its debut, its home institution has been the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor. The festival has recently evolved into an international event: international symposia, and foreign guests, producers and performances are obvious signs that it is ready to confront the European and global theater scene. The festival consists of several thematic programs (the competition and accompanying program plus the sections entitled Bridges, Generations, and Showcase).

Chekhov: Platonov - Premier
16 October 2010 -Thália Theatre
Zoltán Balázs, director of Maladype Theatre, gets rid of the lyric, melancholic layers of Chekhov’s early masterpiece. He does not join the trend of presenting a bitter-sweet, impressionistic play, but offers a harsher, more lively and more ironic approach. It is, in fact, the very manner of playing, “simple and primitive”, that Chekhov himself implies once. The cruelly honest performance of Maladype does not seek the writer’s intention, rather the possible interpretations of the present.
A joint programme with Thalia Theatre, Maladype Theatre and Budapest Autumn Festival.

It is awarded for high artistic values of the entire theatrical act, for a precise and solid spontaneity in interactive relation with the audience, for an immense discipline, accuracy and imagination of playing. The five/member ensemble gave a performance displaying a great skill, glorifying pure play and the pleasure of life. Based on improvisations, their performance reveals a remarkable control of each movement, showing an admiring level of confidence the performers have in each other and perfectly matched gestures.

Plans for the season
The plans for Maladype Theatre`s 2010/2011 season align with those that were conceived in the previous season, and which have since been partially realized.
